Hatching Chickens in Prep

IMG_3681 IMG_3682 IMG_3683 IMG_3684 IMG_3685 IMG_3686 IMG_3687 IMG_3688In Prep K and Prep V we have had some egg-citing visitors come to school. Can you guess what they are? If you said baby chicks and eggs you were right. We have three chicks already hatched in each grade. They are fluffy and cuddly. They are in a playpen having a lovely time playing together and they are very happy. They have yellow and golden feathers. They sit under a light to keep warm and toasty. We also have twelve eggs in an incubator. We have to wait patiently for the chicks to hatch. There are 2 eggs with cracks. We hope they hatch today while we are at school. We wonder what colour they will be. What colour do you think the chicks will be?

Look who’s coming!!!

Today the Preps were given an egg. They were then asked what they thought was nestled inside. Lots of the children excitedly exclaimed that it was a CHICK…and they were right!!! Others thought it could have been a crocodile or a duck. Next week we will be having special visitors to our classroom. We wonder “Who will it be?” Do you know?

2015 Christmas Card Competition

This year our Prep children have been invited to participate in a Christmas Card Design Competition. Anna Burke Federal Member of Chisholm has invited all Foundation children of Chisholm to design a card that will be dropped into every home in Chisholm this festive season. She will then choose a child whose entry displays ‘Spreading Christmas cheer within the community’.
The Preps have worked really hard on their designs and their illustrations are both thoughtful and happy. We talked a lot about the things that they believe will spread happiness during the lead up to Christmas. Once again their responses were delightful. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful bunch of children who understand the importance of being part of a community.

What is my story?

As part of our Inquiry unit What is my story? one of our delightful Preps interviewed her wonderful grandmother about what life was like in Poland when she was a girl.

Imagine how much fun it would be to ride on a sleigh to school just like Santa!!!
I wonder what life was like for our parents and grandparents when they were little?

Thank you God…

MFB VISIT

MFB-KidZone4

On Tuesday the 14th of July, three Fire fighters came to our school to talk to us about how we can stay safe around fires. We learnt lots of things!!!
We should always be with an adult around any fire. When blowing out candles always make sure your hair is tied back or out of the way. Stay away from the stove when mum or dad are cooking.
Fire fighter Mark showed us a smoke detector and we listened to the noise it makes if it goes off. It was really loud. Smoke detectors keep us safe, especially at night because our noses go to sleep too and we wouldn’t be able to smell smoke when we are asleep.
Fire fighter Paul showed us what to do if we needed to get out of our house if there was a fire. First we would
“CRAWL DOWN LOW and GO, GO, GOOOO! Then we would meet at our Safe Meeting Place. Our letterbox is a great place to meet.
Finally Fire fighter Christian dressed up in his full uniform. He sounded funny when he was breathing through his mask. He gave some of us high fives. It was fun!
Now we have homework to do with mum and dad.
1. How many smoke detectors are in our house. Do I know where they are?
2. Where is our safe meeting place in case of an emergency?

TWILIGHT SPORTS

On Monday 2nd March all of the talented children of St Luke’s participated in their Sports night. It was so much fun!
We ran really fast in races. We jumped really high over hurdles. We threw beanbags as far as we could and we ran in the Shuttle Relay. Everyone got to win a ribbon! It was a great night and Red team won the Sports.
What was your favourite event at Sports Night?
