Caring for all creation!

Our big question for this term is ‘How are we called to care for all creation?’. We wanted to share all our discoveries with our school community and the world, so we made this video to send out our messages. We think it is important to remind everyone of how we can all make a difference and care for our world!

The Preps worked in groups to plan their message and the props they would need. They practised their words and then we filmed them. We are so proud of their efforts.

Celebrating our families with a little help from our Buddies!

We recently had our amazing Art Show. As one of our art pieces the Preps created word cloud art (Tagul) with their buddies. The Preps brainstormed lots of words about their families and themselves to create these masterpieces. A BIG thank you to Mrs Coffa for the idea and of course our big Buddies. We think they are fantastic!

Here is our word cloud art and a taste of some of the other pieces we created for our Art Show.

A Great Way to Start Term 4! Letterland Day.

On Friday we celebrated all the great reading and writing we have done this year, with Letterland Day. We dressed up as Letterland characters and our parents and friends came to see us in our parade. After the parade we had lots of fun activities. Please enjoy the slideshow with all the photos of our special day.

Letterland Day is the best day of my life! Olivia

We also created a live graph of our favourite footy teams. Here is Prep V’s live graph:

We talked about the graph. Here is what we came up with:

Collingwood and Essendon were the same on 3 – Gemma

The tigers, crows and kangaroos were the least – Jordan

The hawks were the most on 4 – Ken

Carlton and no football team were the same – Grace

What do you like about football?

Can you tell us something else about our graph?

Fire Fighters visit

What a fantastic way to finish off our very busy and exciting week with a second visit from Firefighters Len, Peter, Mark and Adrian. They reminded us of the special fire messages we heard about last visit. They were very impressed at how much the Preps remembered!

Then we went out to the fire truck to have some fun!!

A big thank you to our wonderful Firefighters who do so much to educate our children and keep everyone in our Community safe. We appreciate all that you do.

We think there are some budding firefighters in Prep. They look so professional!! (Mrs Yore’s car was sparkling by the time we were finished)

Preps, ask Mum or Dad to help you write a comment about the important fire safety messages you have learnt. We will share them at school.

Check out the fun below. Thank you Len for being so amazing with our Preps.

What fire safety messages have you learnt?

Book Week 2016

Australia! Story Country.
We love Book Week. It is a wonderful celebration of the books we love to read. Thank you to all our amazing Australian authors and illustrators – so many beautiful stories to share over and over and over.

Thank you to our wonderful parents who support us and nurture the love of reading that is so important in our children’s lives. We appreciate all your efforts.

Tell us about your favourite book!

PJ Day!

PJ Day is a special day at St. Luke’s. The whole school – teachers too! – come to school in their PJs to help raise money for Melbourne City Mission. Melbourne City Mission supports people in our community who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. It is a day when we stop to think about how lucky we are to have warm beds and nice homes, especially over our freezing winter months. We are very proud of our Preps who advertise the day and help raise awareness of those around us who are less fortunate.
We had a fun day making toast, designing PJs for our bears, making a graph of our favourite toast toppings and bringing our bed time buddies to school for the day. We also stopped to remember how grateful we are for all that we have. We raised $340.00 for Melbourne City Mission this year. Thank you to our school community for your amazing generosity.
Why do we have PJ Day?
We give money to the poor who don’t have homes. Harvey
We give money to the people who have to sleep on the streets. Lucas
On PJ Day we wear our pyjamas to school. Lachie
We raise money for the poor people. Tom

At the start of the term we went to the RSPCA and learnt about the needs of animals and how we can look after them. We also met some amazing animals that are apart of the RSPCA family.

Bubbles, bubbles, beautiful bubbles!

We have had a very busy week in Prep. Prep V and Prep K came together to blow bubbles on the hill. We all made a big circle and tried to blow as many bubbles as we could. We had so much fun! Bubbles make us very happy.

We watched a beautiful short film called ‘Bubbles‘ from the Literacy Shed by Gabriela Zapata. We noticed that when the little girl was sad the music was quiet and the colours of the sky were dark. When the little girl found the bottle of bubbles the music became happy and the colours around the little girl were bright. After her adventure the little girl shared her happiness with someone else.

We had a great discussion about everything that we saw and we thought about where we find happiness – what makes us happy? Then it was time to write and we painted our happy places.

ROY I find happiness at the zoo because of the monkeys.

GRACE Going to the zoo makes me happy because it has lots of animals.

KEN I find happiness at school, in Prep V, because I am with my friends.

PETER I find happiness with my mum because I love her.

ALANA I find happiness at the beach because you can swim in the water.

JORDAN Going to the park makes me happy because there are swings.

ERICA Going to the beach makes me happy because there is the water.

XAVIER I find happiness in the bushes because it is fun.

LEO Going to the zoo makes me happy because I like the giraffes.

ANNIE I find happiness at school because I learn new things.

GEMMA I find happiness at the park because there are monkey bars.

MONIKA I find happiness in the meadow because I can pick some flowers.

OLIVIA I find happiness at the lagoon because I like the lizards and crocodiles.

ZOE Going to school makes me happy because people make me happy.

MELINA I find happiness at home because I can play with my mum and dad.

Where do you find happiness?
